A consultative meeting was held on August 14-15, 2015 for reviewing and enriching the three manuals (Positive Parenting; Result Based Competency Assessment Framework for Mobilization and Awareness Creation Programs; and National Guideline to Engage Men and Boys for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment) that the Ministry of Women, Children, and Youth Affairs (MoWCYA) drafted in collaboration with its development partners.

Child Participation: Training on ‘Right based approach to child right and welfare approach’

Dr. Emebet Mulugeta, Director of Nia Center for Children and Family Development (Nia-CCFD) gave a capacity building training session on the rights based approach to child rights and welfare programming officers of Save the Children Alliance. The training, held on November 15, 2014, was organized by Addis Ababa University Center for Human Rights and Save the Children.

The Sixth IPC International Policy Conference on the African Child - Social Protection in Africa: Making it Work for Children

The Director of Nia Center for Children and Family Development (NiaCCFD), Dr. Emebet Mulugeta, attended the Sixth International Policy Conference on the African Child, hosted by the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF).  The conference held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 27-28 October, 2014, focused primarily on social protection policies in the African continent and on ways these can be improved, particularly with regard to children in Africa.

The Role of Parenting on Children’s Education – Ethio-Parents School Presentation

Ethio-Parents, a community school in Addis Ababa, organized a workshop on May 31, 2014 to discuss the role of parents on their children’s education. Dr. Emebet Mulugeta made a presentation entitled ‘The Role of Parenting on Children’s Education’.  Parents, teachers, and various school administrators were in attendance.

Expert Consultation on Family and Parenting Support UNICEF Office of Research – Innocenti, May 26-27, 2014

NiaCCFD attended an Expert Consultation on Family and Parenting Support organized by UNICEF Office of Research – Innocenti, May 26-27, 2014, in Florence, Italy. The aim of the consultation was to bring together researchers, academics and international agencies to discuss concepts, frameworks, policy orientations and elements of provision in relation to family and parenting support.

NiaCCFD will attend an Expert Consultation on Family and Parenting Support organized by UNICEF Office of Research –Innocenti Florence on May 26-27, 2014, in Florence,Italy. Dr. Emebet Mulugeta will present a paper on available policy provisions on family and parenting support in Ethiopia and the gaps in these provisions. She will also talk about parenting in the context of gender roles prevalent in Ethiopia.

Children sustaining families: A look into the lives of working children in Addis Ababa

The Director of Nia Center for Children and Family Development (NiaCCFD), Dr. Emebet Mulugeta, an associate professor of psychology,made a presentation under the title, “Children sustaining families: A look into the lives of working children in Addis Ababa” at the East and Southern African Regional Symposium on Child Work/Labor organized by Young Lives in collaboration with Oak Foundation and Save the Children. The presentation covered the background on research participants(children), their life situation including working, earning, spending and saving.
